The Summer Campus Program is a four-week professional development program in mathematics content and pedagogy for
Houston-area PreK-12 teachers. Master Teachers who have demonstrated teaching techniques consistent with RUSMP's
philosophy provide instruction in the Campus Program. Master Teachers model teaching advocated by the National Council
of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards under the guidance of RUSMP's personnel. Participants take part in an active
approach to learning mathematics by participating in concept-based learning activities with emphasis on motivation, applications,
and problem solving.

Rice University mathematics and science faculty, visiting mathematicians, and mathematics educators address topics which
enhance and transcend traditional classroom mathematics emphasizing mathematics content, school reform, applications of
mathematics, and gender and minority issues in mathematics education. Upon successful completion of the Summer Campus
Program participants receive graduate and gifted/talented credit.
